Second Indo-Pakistani War Begins (Operation Grand Slam / Op Riddle)
Pakistan launched Operation Grand Slam on September 1, 1965, attacking the Chamb-Akhnoor sector to cut Indian supply lines to Kashmir. India retaliated on September 6 by crossing the international border toward Lahore. The 17-day war saw the largest tank battles since World War II in the Sialkot and Lahore sectors. Both sides made modest territorial gains before a UN-mandated ceasefire.
