Sri Lankan GSF Contingent Lands in Gonaïves, Artibonite

Sri Lankan Gang Suppression Force (GSF) soldiers arrived by ship at the port of Gonaïves, Artibonite department, on August 6, 2026, with vehicles, tactical equipment, and heavy machinery — the first GSF contingent deployment outside the Port-au-Prince metro area since the force's June 1 full-operations launch. The deployment is intended to support the Haitian National Police (PNH) against armed groups in Artibonite, the country's second-most affected department (381 killed in 2026 year-to-date, 25.7% of the national total), where Gran Grif and Kokorat San Ras gangs have expanded largely unchecked along Route Nationale corridors.
