The Kokorat San Ras gang attacked Gros-Mornes in the Artibonite department over the weekend of August 7-8, 2026, killing at least a dozen people according to local residents; the mayor confirmed the massacre. Artibonite has become the second-most affected department nationally, accounting for 381 fatalities (25.7% of national total) in 2026 year-to-date, driven by Gran Grif and Kokorat San Ras gang expansion along Route Nationale routes with negligible GSF coverage in the department.
