MSF Bel Air Clinic Suspends Operations Amid Intensified Gang Clashes
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) suspended operations at its emergency clinic in Bel Air, Port-au-Prince — the only medical facility serving the area — due to sustained gunfire and gang violence that began on or around March 16, 2026. The Bel Air neighborhood was the scene of daily clashes between Haitian National Police and Viv Ansanm-affiliated gangs. Civilian casualties included two schoolchildren and their father, killed by stray gunfire. With the Kenya-led MSS formally transitioning out and the Gang Suppression Force not yet formally deployed, the neighborhood had no stabilizing security presence. The clinic suspension left tens of thousands of residents without access to emergency care.
