215 Kenyan Police Officers Begin Withdrawal from Haiti, MSS Mission Winds Down

| Haiti

A first contingent of 215 Kenyan police officers departed Haiti on March 17, 2026, marking the start of the formal drawdown of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission. Kenya's Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni flew to Haiti to accompany the returning officers. The withdrawal precedes an April 15 deadline for the full MSS-to-GSF transition. Kenya declined to continue leading the successor force after failing to secure command guarantees. The MSS, which never reached its planned 2,500-personnel strength, deployed fewer than 1,000 officers—mostly Kenyan—during its roughly 20-month tenure. Chad's troops are currently training in the United States and are expected to replace Kenyan officers as part of a phased transition through October 2026.
