Rescue Teams Recover Remains of 55 Malka Family Members from Gaza City Rubble

| Gaza War

Gaza civil defence teams concluded a 72-hour operation on Saturday, September 5, 2026, recovering the remains of 55 people from the rubble of the Malka family home in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, destroyed by an Israeli air strike on November 19, 2023. Colonel Muhammad Abu Dan, who supervised the rescue, said chronic shortages of heavy machinery have hampered recovery efforts and called for international humanitarian organizations to provide equipment. Gaza's Health Ministry says 73,651 Palestinians have been confirmed killed since October 7, 2023, and 174,575 injured, with an estimated 10,000-14,000 people still believed missing under rubble strip-wide. Separately, US Ambassador Mike Huckabee said 'I can tell you categorically there is no plan of the Israelis to displace people out of Gaza against their will,' pushing back on Defense Minister Katz's and National Security Minister Ben Gvir's recent emigration proposals. A joint funeral for the recovered remains was planned for the following day.
