Shin Bet Commandos Capture Hamas Internal Security Chief Muein al-Arabid in Gaza City Raid
Shin Bet special forces carried out a daylight raid near al-Arabid's home in the Al Katiba area of western Gaza City on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, capturing Muein al-Arabid, the wounded chief of Hamas's internal security apparatus. Netanyahu said al-Arabid was 'responsible for hiding and moving our hostages, hiding senior Hamas officials, force build-up' and attempts to restore Hamas governance in Gaza. The IDF said the ground force was not exposed and returned without casualties; the Israeli Air Force struck military targets in the surrounding area to cover the operation. Gaza's government media office said Israeli special forces were 'exposed during the mission,' after which more than 10 warplanes struck the area. Palestinian officials and Al-Shifa Hospital reported at least 3 Palestinians killed and 8 wounded in the raid and accompanying strikes, including al-Arabid's wife killed and children wounded, per Gaza's Interior Ministry.
