Kyoto Fusioneering Closes ¥25.72B ($162M) Series D to Scale UNITY Tritium Fuel Cycle Programme
Kyoto Fusioneering announced on August 24, 2026 the close of a ¥25.72 billion (~$162 million) Series D financing — ¥16.72B (~$105M) in new equity plus ¥9.0B (~$57M) in credit and loan facilities — bringing its cumulative equity raised to ¥32.98B (~$207M). The round was backed by IMM Investment Japan's Korea-Japan Fusion Fund (with strategic investors Posco Holdings, Posco International, Doosan, Hyundai Motor and GS E&C), alongside SBI Investment, GX Acceleration Agency, the Development Bank of Japan, JR East, and Minerva Growth Partners. The capital accelerates KF's UNITY programme, a staged de-risking effort for tritium fuel cycle and tritium-breeding-blanket technology spanning three integrated facilities: UNITY-1 (Kyoto, Japan), UNITY-2 (Canada), and UNITY-3 (Tennessee, US — the $46.9M ORNL-backed breeding blanket test facility announced August 13, 2026). KF supplies balance-of-plant fusion fuel cycle and heat-exchange systems to reactor developers rather than building its own reactor.
