Egyptian FM Discusses Gaza Stabilization Force, West Bank Settlement Expansion, and Hormuz Security in Regional Calls

Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of diplomatic calls on August 22, 2026 aimed at containing Middle East tensions. On Gaza, he discussed deployment of the International Stabilization Force alongside the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza and implementation of the US-backed peace roadmap, covering Israeli withdrawal, humanitarian access, and early recovery. He condemned Israel's E1 settlement project in the West Bank as 'a threat to Palestinian geographical contiguity that isolates East Jerusalem from its surroundings,' reiterating Egypt's rejection of annexation or demographic change in occupied territory. In a separate call with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, the two discussed restoring normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz amid the blockade's toll on global energy security. Abdelatty also spoke with his Iranian counterpart on efforts to bring Tehran and Washington back to negotiations.
