Egypt Contains Oil Spill From Pipeline Leak Off South Sinai Coast

| Egypt

Egypt's Ministry of Local Development and Environment announced on August 26, 2026 that it had contained an oil spill stretching roughly three kilometers off Ras Badran near Abu Rudeis in South Sinai, after slicks reached parts of a public beach. The Suez branch of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency traced the source to a crude oil production pipeline; authorities halted affected production, located the leak, and sealed it. Minister Manal Awad said pollution-control teams and divers continued clean-up and water-quality monitoring to confirm no further leakage, with legal action and compensation to follow pending the outcome of an environmental impact assessment.
