Health Workers Strike at Bunia's Elikya Ebola Treatment Center as Cases Near 3,000

Staff at the Elikya Ebola Treatment Center in Bunia, Ituri Province, voted unanimously on 27 July 2026 to strike over two months of unpaid performance bonuses, disrupting patient care in the epicenter of the outbreak. Affected staff included epidemiological surveillance teams, safety and security personnel, community outreach workers, and burial teams; several told the Associated Press they had received no payment since starting work at the outbreak's onset in May. The strike came as DRC confirmed cases approached 3,000 with over 1,300 deaths.
