DRC Ebola Cases Surpass 2,000 as Health Workers Begin Strike
The DRC Ministry of Health confirmed 2,011 Bundibugyo virus cases and 754 deaths as of 15 July 2026. The same day, healthcare workers at Bunia General Hospital in Ituri Province began a strike, blocking the hospital entrance and saying they had received no compensation since the outbreak began in May. MSF separately reported that in the two months since declaration, confirmed cases had tripled from 650 to over 2,000 and deaths had increased more than fivefold from 130 to over 700, with Ituri province accounting for roughly 90% of all confirmed cases, calling it the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record.
