DRC Ebola Death Toll Passes 500 as WHO Says It Cannot Yet Call Outbreak Stabilizing
DRC's Ministry of Health recorded 1,561 confirmed Bundibugyo virus cases and 506 deaths as of 4 July 2026 (CFR roughly 32%), with 254 recovered and more than 10,000 contacts under monitoring. WHO officials said the outbreak's true scale has not yet been fully established and stated, 'We would like to say it is stabilising, but frankly, we cannot say it yet.' The unstable security situation in eastern DRC — including clashes between government forces and armed militias in North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri — continues to complicate response operations.
