France Confirms First-Ever Ebola Case in Doctor Returning From DRC Mission

French health authorities confirmed on 24 June 2026 the country's first-ever domestically detected Ebola case: a physician with humanitarian organization ALIMA who had been treating patients in DRC's Ituri Province. The doctor boarded a commercial Air France flight from Kinshasa while experiencing only mild symptoms (headache), with condition slightly worsening in-flight. On arrival in Paris the doctor was isolated under strict biosafety protocol; five fellow passengers were identified as possible contacts and placed in precautionary isolation. The patient was reported in stable condition with a very low viral load. The case came the same week DRC's confirmed case count surpassed 1,100.
