Uganda Confirms 3 More Cases — Total 5 Imported Ebola Cases in Kampala
Uganda confirmed three additional cases of Bundibugyo virus disease, bringing the country's total to five. The new cases included: (1) a driver who transported Uganda's first confirmed patient; (2) a health worker at a Kampala hospital who treated an infected patient; and (3) a woman from DRC who entered Uganda with mild symptoms, traveled from Arua to Entebbe, sought care at a private hospital in Kampala, initially improved and returned to DRC, then tested positive after a follow-up prompted by a tip from a pilot who had transported her. All five Ugandan cases were imported with epidemiological links traceable to DRC. No local transmission among contacts of confirmed cases had been documented in Uganda. Contact tracing teams were following 87 contacts of the first two confirmed cases.
