AFC/M23 Attacks Kibundi and Mwima, Driving Eight Villages to Flee Toward Ntoto

| DRC Conflict

The security and humanitarian situation stayed tense through Monday, Sept 7 in Masisi and Walikale territories, North Kivu, after intense fighting over the weekend. AFC/M23 attacked FARDC- and Wazalendo-held positions at Kibundi and Mwima villages, in the Katoyi sector of Masisi's Nyamaboko I grouping, with bombardments also reported near Mindjendje that pushed government forces to withdraw toward Mpeti. Residents of at least eight villages fled to Ntoto, in Walikale's Waloa Uroba grouping, joining earlier arrivals from the Masisi-Walikale fighting; local notables said host communities remain overwhelmed and no official casualty or displacement count has been established.
