DRC Announces Plan to Move Israel Embassy From Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

| DRC Conflict

Two days after President Tshisekedi's Jerusalem talks with PM Netanyahu and President Herzog, the DRC and Israel announced Sept 3 they would continue consultations on relocating the DRC's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem; no timetable was given. The joint declaration also said Israel would continue consultations on opening a resident embassy in Kinshasa. The move would place the DRC among a small group of countries — mostly outside Africa — that recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital by locating their embassy there, an unusual position for an African state and a notable deepening of the DRC-Israel relationship first revived by Herzog's November 2025 Kinshasa visit.
