AFC/M23 and FARDC-Wazalendo Clash at Chinono, Kalehe Territory

Fresh fighting broke out the afternoon of Thursday, Sept 3 between AFC/M23 and FARDC-Wazalendo forces at Chinono, on the border between the Ziralo and Mubuku groupings in Kalehe territory's Buhavu chiefdom, South Kivu — the same corridor where M23 recaptured the Ziralo grouping in August. Local civil society said small-arms and heavy-artillery fire was heard from around 1pm, triggering population movement into the bush and toward Ramba in the Mubuku grouping. No casualty toll had been established and neither FARDC nor M23 had issued a statement as of the report.
