Nangaa Says Doha Process 'Not Dead,' Accuses Tshisekedi of Stalling

AFC coordinator Corneille Nangaa said Sept 2 that the Doha-mediated peace process is "not dead" despite persistent disagreements with Kinshasa, and that his delegation had responded to a request President Tshisekedi made via Qatar after the fall of Goma and Bukavu to open discussions. Nangaa nonetheless accused the government of using the Doha track to "gagner du temps" (buy time) rather than negotiate in good faith, declaring "Le problème au Congo, c'est monsieur Tshisekedi" ("The problem in Congo is Mr. Tshisekedi") and criticizing simultaneous FARDC arrest operations during prisoner-release discussions as "aberrant." He said his camp remains committed to a negotiated outcome despite the rhetoric. The remarks came as the AFC/M23 side continues to debate whether to join Tshisekedi's separate national dialogue, which the government has said armed-group leaders cannot automatically join.
