|DRC Conflict

MONUSCO chief James Swan, who succeeded Bintou Keita in April 2026, and UN Great Lakes envoy Huang Xia met Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali as part of a regional tour, a day after meeting Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe, who said 81 people MONUSCO repatriated as ex-FDLR combatants were later found to be Congolese civilians. Swan is due to brief the UN Security Council ahead of MONUSCO's December 2026 mandate renewal.
