CATL and SAIC-GM-Wuling Partner on 10-Minute EV Fast Charging

Chinese battery giant CATL announced a partnership with SAIC-GM-Wuling on April 14, 2026, to develop next-generation EV batteries capable of charging from 10% to 80% in under 10 minutes — bringing mass-market EVs close to the refueling speed of petrol vehicles. The technology leverages CATL's Shenxing battery platform with improved ion conductivity. The announcement comes as a direct response to competitive pressure from BYD's 'Flash Charging' technology, which already achieves 10–70% charge in 5 minutes on select models.
