IRENA: Record 692 GW of Renewables Added in 2025 — Global Total Hits 5,149 GW
The International Renewable Energy Agency released its Renewable Capacity Statistics 2026 on April 11, 2026, confirming that the world added a record 692 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2025 — a 15.5% annual increase — bringing total global renewable capacity to 5,149 GW, nearly 50% of all global power capacity. Solar PV dominated additions at 510 GW (74% of all new renewables), with China alone accounting for 1,202 GW of installed solar capacity. Wind added 159 GW. Together solar and wind accounted for 96.8% of all net renewable additions. Asia contributed 74.2% of global additions (513 GW), while Africa recorded its highest-ever percentage growth at 15.9%, led by expanding solar deployment.
