France and Germany Smash April Solar Generation Records
Multiple European countries set new April solar generation records in early April 2026, reflecting the rapid expansion of rooftop and utility-scale solar across the continent. Germany produced a record 426 GWh of solar electricity on April 8 — an all-time April daily maximum. France set its own April record at 136 GWh on April 9. Spain generated 200 GWh on April 10 (second-highest April daily total) and Portugal recorded 22 GWh (its second-highest April day). The records, reported by AleaSoft and PV Magazine on April 15, reflect Europe's growing solar capacity which has more than doubled since 2020. Germany now has over 1 million registered plug-in solar installations. Combined, spring sunshine is increasingly turning European grids solar-dominant during daylight hours.
