'Operación Cancerbero': Gendarmería Transfers Nearly 300 High-Risk Inmates to New Talca Maximum-Security Prison
Gendarmería, with Carabineros and PDI support and two-helicopter escort, carried out 'Operación Cancerbero' on August 13, transferring high-risk inmates — including organized-crime leaders and members — from prisons across the country (Arica, Alto Hospicio, Puente Alto, Colina 1, Colina 2, Puerto Montt, and others) to the new La Laguna maximum-security prison in Talca, modeled explicitly on El Salvador's Bukele-style penal system. President Kast traveled to the Maule region with Justice Minister Fernando Rabat and Security Minister Martín Arrau to oversee the operation. The new regime imposes individual segregation, constant facial-recognition monitoring, and only two hours of yard time for the most dangerous inmates.
