Two Young Women Shot Dead in Tepito Leaving Independence Day Celebration, Accused of 'Betraying' Anti-Unión

Odette Rosas, 18, and Abigail Herrera, 19, were shot dead by gunmen on a motorcycle around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Rinconada and Toltecas streets in the Morelos neighborhood (Cuauhtémoc), near Tepito's Mercado 14, as they left a Independence Day (Grito) celebration on the night of September 15–16. According to reporting citing journalist Carlos Jiménez, Rosas was the girlfriend of an Anti-Unión Tepito member and both women had been labeled 'traitors' by the group over accusations she tried to link them to rival La Unión Tepito. No arrests had been reported as of September 17; authorities were reviewing surveillance footage. The killing extends a Centro Histórico turf war between La Unión Tepito and Anti-Unión that has left at least 11 dead since early August 2026.
