Umbrella-Sparked Short Circuit Sets Metro Train Ablaze at Taxqueña Terminal, Line 2 Evacuated
Around 10:00 a.m., an umbrella that fell onto the tracks at the Taxqueña terminal of Metro Line 2 caused a short circuit that ignited a small fire in a train car. Station personnel evacuated the terminal as a precaution while STC rolling-stock and transportation staff extinguished the blaze with chemical fire extinguishers. No injuries were reported and service was briefly disrupted before returning to normal. The Metro reiterated its standing warning for riders to secure loose objects, particularly umbrellas, during the rainy season, after Line 3 alone logged 3,558 recorded faults so far in 2026.
