| CDMX

Around 4,000 members of indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities marched down Paseo de la Reforma from the Ángel de la Independencia to the Zócalo on August 9 in the 'Megacalenda,' marking the UN International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and the XII Fiesta de las Culturas Indígenas, Pueblos y Barrios Originarios. Purépecha, Triqui, Nahua, Mixtec, Mixe, Zapotec, Mazatec, Mazahua, Otomí, Tlapanec, and Totonac contingents traveled from Michoacán, Puebla, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Guerrero, and Oaxaca to join the march, with dance, music, and cultural performances along the route. Demands included access to dignified housing with cultural relevance, respect for indigenous identity and languages, recognition of free self-determination, and payment of outstanding debts owed to indigenous-language interpreters who collaborate with the Fiscalía General de Justicia CDMX.
