Red Alert as Rains Flood Tlalpan and Xochimilco, 60mm in Under an Hour in Topilejo
Heavy rainfall on August 7 triggered a Red Alert for Tlalpan and Magdalena Contreras and an Orange Alert for Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Iztacalco, and Iztapalapa, with Yellow Alerts across the remaining alcaldías. Topilejo, in Tlalpan, recorded 60mm of rain in under an hour, turning streets into rivers; the Picacho-Ajusco corridor also flooded. The following day, heavy rain continued into Xochimilco's San Mateo Xalpa neighborhood, prompting authorities to raise Xochimilco to Red Alert and Tlalpan to Purple Alert. No deaths were reported; Protección Civil urged residents to avoid waterlogged areas.
