Brugada Announces MXN 40 Billion Renovation of Metro Line 3
Speaking at the newly renovated Universidad station, Jefa de Gobierno Clara Brugada announced a comprehensive rehabilitation of Metro Line 3 — the busiest line after 1 and 2, carrying over 1 million passengers daily across 23 km and 21 stations from Indios Verdes to Universidad — with an investment exceeding MXN 40 billion, more than 18 times the cost of the Line 2 modernization. The five-point plan includes 45 new trains, full track rehabilitation, modernized electrical/electromechanical and fire-protection systems, updated signaling, and rehabilitation of all 21 stations with expanded surveillance and accessibility upgrades. Major works begin in 2027, financed partly through a co-investment scheme with private participation; Brugada guaranteed no station closures or fare increase (still MXN 5) during 2026.
