Brugada: June 2026 Was CDMX's Safest Month in 15 Years During the World Cup

Jefa de Gobierno Clara Brugada announced that Mexico City closed June 2026 — the month of the World Cup opening — with an average of 1.8 intentional homicides per day, down 57% from 4.2 per day in June 2018 and the lowest monthly figure in 15 years. Brugada said intentional homicides have fallen 31% since the start of her administration, and that high-impact crime in the first half of 2026 dropped 64% versus the same period in 2019 and 8% versus the first half of 2025. She credited the C5 camera network, a dedicated World Cup security task force, and coordination with federal forces for the results.
