Five Years Since Metro Line 12 Collapse — Still No Convictions

| CDMX

May 3, 2026 marks five years since the overpass collapse on Metro Line 12 between Olivos and Nopalera stations (Tláhuac) killed 26 people and injured 98 on May 3, 2021. Families of victims gathered at the collapse site for a commemoration, renewing demands for justice. Eight of the original ten former officials charged remain under trial, with criminal proceedings repeatedly delayed by defense appeals. No one has been imprisoned. Prosecutors charged former officials from the line's 2010–2012 construction phase following the DNV forensic investigation that attributed the collapse to deficient bolt installation and design flaws. The rebuilt overpass section reopened in January 2023. Victims' families and advocacy groups condemned what they called a systemic failure of Mexico's justice system.
