CAMe Activates Phase 1 Ozone Contingency in CDMX Metro Area
The Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis (CAMe) activated a Phase 1 environmental contingency on April 25 due to elevated ozone levels exceeding safety thresholds. Anticyclonic circulation trapped pollutants over the Valley of Mexico. The contingency was suspended the following day but orange-level (bad) air quality persisted throughout early May, particularly in the eastern alcaldías of Nezahualcóyotl and Iztapalapa. Authorities urged residents with respiratory conditions to limit outdoor activity. The heat wave baking the capital through early May (temperatures of 29–32°C) continued to accelerate ozone formation.
