New Small Fires Confirmed Near Nipigon and Long Lake 58 First Nation

Ontario's Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services confirmed Nipigon 108, a 0.5-hectare fire not under control roughly 21 km west of Highway 585 near Eskwanonwatin Lake, on Sept 4. By the evening of Sept 5, three further new starts had been confirmed in the Northwest Region, including Nipigon 111, a 0.2-hectare fire being held about half a kilometre northwest of Wolf Street in Long Lake 58 First Nation. The additions kept Northwestern Ontario's active fire count near 62, with the Rinker Lake Complex (Thunder Bay 36, Dryden 34, Dryden 35 — 377,240 ha combined) still not under control amid otherwise low regional fire activity.
