Northwestern Ontario Active Fire Count Eases to 56 as Rinker Complex Holds Steady

Northwestern Ontario's active wildfire count eased to 56 as of Sept. 1 (3 not under control, 3 being held, 12 under control, 38 being observed), down from 59 in late August, with no new fires confirmed. The Rinker Lake Complex — Thunder Bay 36 (301,240 ha), Dryden 34 (45,800 ha) and Dryden 35 (30,158 ha), a combined 377,198 ha — remains not under control, though fire behaviour across the complex has stayed on the low end in recent days as crews continue helicopter bucketing on hotspots and demobilize equipment no longer needed.
