National Season Total Reaches 5,248 Fires and 4.49 Million Hectares
CIFFC's season-to-date figures as of August 31 put Canada at 5,248 fires and 4,492,283 hectares burned nationally — up from 4,793 fires and 4.1 million hectares on August 18. The Northwest Territories remained the single largest contributor at 1,694,002 hectares across 288 fires, followed by Quebec (753,935 ha), Ontario (743,066 ha) and British Columbia (476,586 ha, reflecting the Bald Range, Pear Lake and Ainslie Creek fires).
