Two New Fires Ignite Near Sioux Narrows and Blue Lake Provincial Park as NW Ontario Holds at 59 Active

Ontario's Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services confirmed two new wildfire starts in its Sunday-night report: Kenora 34, a 0.1-hectare fire on an island on Cameron Lake southeast of Sioux Narrows, listed not under control; and Dryden 66, a 0.1-hectare fire near Brownie Lake about 7 km west of the Blue Lake Provincial Park campground, listed as being held. The two new starts left the Northwest Fire Region's active count unchanged at 59 (4 not under control, 4 being held, 12 under control, 39 being observed), as other small fires were closed out elsewhere in the region over the same period. The Rinker Lake Complex — Thunder Bay 36 (301,240 ha), Dryden 34 (45,800 ha) and Dryden 35 (30,158 ha), a combined 377,198 ha — remains not under control though activity stays low; command remains with Thunder Bay Fire Management Headquarters, with crews using helicopter bucketing to suppress remaining hotspots.
