El Alto Driver Federation Proposes Indefinite Strike at Tuesday Assembly

El Alto's interprovincial driver federation held its ampliado (sector assembly) on Tuesday and moved to propose an indefinite national transport strike, demanding the outright repeal of Decree 5716's diesel-subsidy elimination. Federation leader Eddy Condori said "Estamos exigiendo un paro indefinido. La determinación de la asamblea es la abrogación de este Decreto 5716," while Confederación de Choferes leader Lucio Gómez said the decree forces the sector to review operating costs, warning "¿Quién va a sufrir? El pueblo." The proposal fed into the national confederation's own meeting later that week.
