Police and Military Deploy on Three Highways to Preempt Diesel Blockades

Police and Armed Forces personnel deployed Monday to Villa Remedios on the La Paz–Oruro highway, plus the Oruro–Cochabamba and El Alto–Tiquina routes, under the expanded state of exception, to guard against anticipated blockades by transport and social sectors opposed to Decree 5716's diesel-subsidy elimination. President Rodrigo Paz reiterated the policy rationale: "Desde hoy el diésel nos va a costar lo mismo que nos cuesta comprarlo afuera del país... el precio del diésel será igual para todos y va a fluctuar con los precios internacionales."
