Tesla Launches Startup Challenge to Scale 4680 Cell Manufacturing at Giga Berlin
Tesla launched the JUNI x Tesla Battery Cell Giga Challenge on July 7, 2026, in partnership with JUNI, a Berlin-Brandenburg startup platform backed by Germany's federal economics ministry. The program invites startups to pitch solutions in materials, equipment, operations, automation, and AI that measurably improve the quality, speed, cost, safety, or scalability of battery cell manufacturing. It supports Tesla's push to scale 4680 cell output at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg from 8 GWh to 18 GWh annually — enough for roughly 250,000–350,000 vehicles per year — following a $250M investment announced in May 2026. Applications close July 24, 2026; selected teams get paid pilot projects with Tesla's cell team in Grünheide starting August 2026.
