CATL's Third-Gen Shenxing LFP Battery Charges 10%–98% in Under 7 Minutes

| Battery Revolution

Coverage widened on April 23 for CATL's Tech Day announcement (held April 21) of its third-generation Shenxing LFP ultra-fast-charging battery. The cell achieves a full recharge from 10% to 98% in 6 minutes and 27 seconds — outpacing BYD's latest Blade Battery 2.0 (which targets 9 minutes). CATL reported a peak charge rate equivalent to 10C–15C and volumetric energy density of 600 Wh/L. The Shenxing 3.0 uses a nano-crystalline LFP cathode and an upgraded multi-gradient electrolyte architecture that reduces charge resistance at the anode-cathode interface. This chemistry retains all of LFP's inherent thermal stability and cost advantages while matching NMC-class charge speeds for the first time in a mass-production roadmap product.
