Orion Performs First Powered Lunar Flyby — 80 Miles from Surface

Orion performed its first powered flyby of the Moon, passing within 80 miles (130 km) of the lunar surface. The flyby burn inserted the capsule into a Distant Retrograde Orbit around the Moon. This was the closest any human-rated spacecraft had come to the Moon since the Apollo 17 command module in 1972.
