AMLO Submits 'Plan C' — Comprehensive Judicial Reform Package

On February 5, 2024, AMLO formally submitted his 'Plan C' constitutional reform package to Congress, including the judiciary overhaul that would replace all federal judges — including Supreme Court justices — with popularly elected officials. He cited judiciary injunctions (amparos) that had blocked his infrastructure projects as evidence of political bias. The plan also proposed reducing the Supreme Court from 11 to 9 justices, creating a Judicial Discipline Tribunal, and holding elections for all judicial positions by June 2025.
