Supreme Court Strikes Down Plan B Electoral Reform
In a 9–2 vote on May 8, 2023, the Supreme Court (SCJN) invalidated the first part of Plan B, ruling that Congress violated procedural articles of the constitution by failing to allow adequate deliberation time. On June 22, 2023, the SCJN invalidated the second part on identical grounds. The full overturn guaranteed that INE's structure and the electoral rules governing the 2018 elections would remain in place for 2024. AMLO publicly condemned the ruling and vowed 'Plan C' — the popular election of all federal judges, including Supreme Court justices.
