Los Pinos Presidential Residence Opened to Public
On his first day in office, AMLO converted the Los Pinos presidential residence — the official home of every Mexican president since 1934 — into a public cultural center, symbolizing his rejection of elite presidential privilege. He relocated executive offices to the historic National Palace on the Zócalo. He also announced a 60% cut to the presidential salary (to approximately US$5,000/month) and pledged to fly commercial rather than use the official Boeing 787.
