Battle of Philippine Sea — 'Great Marianas Turkey Shoot'
The largest carrier-versus-carrier battle in history saw the US Navy destroy Japanese naval air power in what became known as 'the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot.' Japan lost 600 aircraft and three carriers; US losses were minimal. The battle ended Japan's ability to mount effective carrier operations for the rest of the war.
