Axis Forces Surrender in Tunisia — North Africa Campaign Ends

| World War II

Over 230,000 Axis troops surrendered in Tunisia, ending the North Africa campaign. The scale of the surrender rivaled Stalingrad. Allied victory in Africa opened the way for the invasion of Sicily and Italy. The campaign had cost the Axis two years of strategic time and irreplaceable forces.
