Second Battle of El Alamein — Rommel Defeated
General Montgomery's British Eighth Army launched a massive 13-day offensive against Rommel's Afrika Korps at El Alamein, Egypt, breaking through Axis lines and beginning the final expulsion of Axis forces from North Africa. Churchill called it 'the end of the beginning.' Combined with Operation Torch, Axis forces in Africa were trapped in Tunisia.
