Treaty of Versailles Signed

Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors, exactly five years after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Key terms: Germany accepted war guilt (Article 231), paid reparations ultimately set at 132 billion gold marks, lost 13% of territory including Alsace-Lorraine to France, and was limited to a 100,000-man army. John Maynard Keynes resigned from the British delegation and published The Economic Consequences of the Peace, predicting the treaty would lead to another war—which it did.
