Easter Rising in Dublin

| World War I

Irish Republican Brotherhood and Irish Volunteers seized key Dublin buildings and proclaimed the Irish Republic, while Germany attempted (and failed) to land weapons to support the uprising. The British military response suppressed the rising within six days, executing 15 leaders, including Patrick Pearse and James Connolly. Public opinion in Ireland, initially hostile to the rebels, turned sharply against Britain following the executions, transforming the political landscape toward independence.
