Allied Landings at Gallipoli

| World War I

British, French, Australian, and New Zealand troops landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula to open a new front against the Ottoman Empire. British forces landed at Cape Helles while ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) came ashore at what became ANZAC Cove, about a mile north of their intended beach. Ottoman forces under Mustafa Kemal put up fierce resistance, confining the Allies to narrow beachheads from which they never managed to break out.
